The Rotating Guide Roller(RGR) is an equipment used at the moon pool level as a support to the drill pipe’s high bending stress at the slip bowl in the rotary table when the drill string is dragged by strong currents towards the AFT. The RGR provides an axial and radial motion of rotation to cater for the unpredictability of the drill string. The design allows personnel to install the VIV suppression ropes with NuStar VIV clamp in a safer manner.

The Diverter Guide Roller(DGR) is designed to install inside the diverter housing and use as a guide for drill pipe during the process of drilling. DGR consists 2 main sub assembly, namely external housing and internal housing, which allow DGR to rotate radially and axially. Radial rotation helps to reduce the grinding effect between drill pipe and DGR rollers during the process of drilling as axial rotation enables the drill pipe to be guided up or down.

NuStar Technologies was commissioned by JAMSTEC in the Chikyu Riser Weldment Repair, Repaint, Maintenance and Storage.

NuStar Technologies has designed and manufactured a riser spider, with load capacity of 2.75 million lbf, for a customer in Japan.

A spider is a device equipped with retractable ‘dogs’ that supports the riser string on the uppermost coupling shoulder during deployment and retrieval.

SPIDER FEATURES

  • • Six hydraulically operated dogs, eliminating the need for manual driving of the dogs.
  • • Fully retractable dogs, enabling maximum diameter of riser string component to drift through the spider
  • • The spider body frame consists of two halves retained by robust lock pins
  • • Designed to be seated on gimbal assembly structure
  • • Fully load tested to 4.125 MMlbf
  • • Successfully deployed during drilling campaign

The NuStar Riser Gimbal is installed between the Riser Spider and the Rotary Table. It is used to reduce the shock and evenly distribute loads on the Riser Spider, as well as the Riser sections.

GIMBAL FEATURES

  • • 60.75” Inner diameter
